Day 4. - Just had one of the most beautiful days of riding ever! Rode 270 miles from Rimouski to Gaspe' - the easternmost part of Gaspe' Peninsula on the south side of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The weather was perfect - 70s and sunny. The road was right along the shore. There was one small village after another all the way. Rode many miles yesterday and today at 1-2 meters (3-6 feet) above sea level! Near the eastern side of the peninsula, the terrain turned mountainous with rises in elevation as much as 1000 feet and grades as steep as 18%.
Went by the location where Marconi sent his first signal. Saw huge piles of driftwood all along the beach. Learned that's for St. John the Baptist day June 24.
Had nice lunch at a quaint village near Marsoui, then supper at an outdoor cafe overlooking the Bay de Gaspe'. Gas prices across Ontario averaged $4.55/gallon and $4.95 across Quebec.
Watched some type of birds diving into the water to fish. Not sure what they were, but there were hundreds of them.
Aw shucks, I am so jealous.
ReplyDeleteWow does that look beautiful, you lucky bums.
I knew St. John had something to do with driftwood. (:-))
